PALO ALTO, CALIF. - The University of Utah track and field team sent their middle distance and distance runners to compete at the Stanford Invitational on Friday night. The Utes competed in the 1500-meter run, 3000-meter steeple, and 5000-meter run. They will be competing in the 10000-meter run and 800-meter run later Friday night and Saturday morning.
Chelsea DiGrazia finished ninth in her heat in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:30.94, just three seconds off from a regional qualifying mark. Volunteer assistant Shayla Houlihan won the 3,000-meter steeple event with a time of 10:29.59. Houlihan was just 12 seconds short of qualifying for the B standard for the U.S. National Meet.
"We are off to a really good start. It's been a good two days of competition between Brianna [LeRoy] in the heptathlon, our runners here at Stanford, and the rest of the team at the ASU Invitational," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "Our runners have competed well here and we are excited about how well we did in Tempe today. I'm happy that the hammer throwers had a good day and will be able to go into tomorrow with that out of the way."
Lauren Endersen will be competing in the 10000-meter run later Friday night and Lucy Yates will be competing in the 800-meter run on Saturday at 8:00 a.m. PT. Check back for these results.
