TEMPE, ARIZ. - The University of Utah track and field team finished up competition at the prestigious Sun Angel Classic on Saturday with two additional regional qualifiers. Chelsea Shapard and Chelsea DiGrazia had regional qualifying marks in their respective events.
"We had a great meet on Saturday. I had mixed emotions mid-meet in the afternoon, but then we just hit that `on' button and had a bunch of personal bests," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "[Chelsea] Shapard had the best mark we've seen from her at this point in the season. Lauren [Endersen] was in bed and not feeling well all day, but came out and ran a great race and set a new personal best. I was pleased with our team. It was rainy and windy, but we did well. This is a great step forward for our program. We needed a great weekend like this. Have a few big weeks ahead of us, and we'll keep pushing forward."
Shapard had another regional qualifying mark in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 58.88 to earn second-place overall. This is her second-best time which ranks third on the all-time list. Shapard holds the school record in the 400-meter with a time of 58.07.
DiGrazia had a ninth-place finish in the `B' Heat of the 1500-meter run with a regional qualifying time of 4:26.71. Janett Ern competed in the `C&D' Heat of the 1500-meter run with a tenth-place finish and a time of 4:40.00.
Lauren Endersen and Kellie Anderson had a good day on the track in the 5000-meter run. Endersen ran a 17:13.50 race for and an eighth-place finish and a new personal best. Anderson ousted her personal best by 35 seconds with a time of 17:26.80 for a 14th-place overall finish. Endersen's time is fifth on Utah's all-time outdoor performance list and Anderson's time is eighth-best.
Chelsey Kaplar competed in the 400-meter university hurdles for a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:02.37, which ranks eighth on Utah's all-time performance list.
In the 100-meter dash, Whitney Wellington ran a 12.26 race for a 15th-place finish, which ranks ninth on the all-time performance list. Ashley Patterson competed in the 400-meter dash for a sixth-place finish with a time of 56.66. Her time is the eighth best on the outdoor performance list.
Utah had two 4x400-meter relay teams competing in the Sun Angel Classic. Lucy Yates, Kaplar, Wellington, and Shapard earned third-place with a time of 3:51. 75, while Patterson, Haley McAllister-Birkeland, Ern, and Brianna LeRoy earned a fourth-place finish with a time of 4:01.21.
In the field events, McAllister-Birkeland competed in the long jump for an eighth-place finish with a distance of 18'7.75". Her jump ranks seventh-best on Utah performance list. Langley Iverson had another good day in high jump, clearing the 5'7" mark to earn eighth-place, which ranks eighth on Utah's all-time list.
Klaudia Rokossa competed in section two of the pole vault for an eighth-place finish after clearing 11'7.75". This ties her personal best which ranks eighth on the all-time performance list.

The University of Utah track and field team will be traveling to Walnut, Calif. to compete in the Mt. Sac Relays on April 16-18.
