Utah Men's Tennis Falls In Quarterfinal Round of MWC Tournament

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The No. 3-seed University of Utah men's tennis team (16-9, 4-3 MWC) fell in the quarterfinal round of the 2009 Mountain West Conference Championships Thursday at the Jerry Cline Tennis Center in Albuquerque. The Utes were defeated by No. 6-seed UNLV (14-11, 3-4 MWC), 4-2.

The No. 47-ranked Utah duo of Wes Hancock and Phillip Eilers downed No. 75-ranked Elliot Wronski and Luca Barlocchi, 8-4, from the No. 1 spot.

Timmy Allin and John Taylor fell to Wesley Burrows and Mehdi Bouras in the No. 2 position, 9-7.

In the No. 3 slot Benito Suriano and Stephen Jacobs clinched the doubles point for Utah defeating Attila Toth and Nikolaj Wulff, 8-6.

In the No. 1 spot Hancock fell to Wronski, 6-2, 6-1, tying the match at 1-1. Allin put the Utes ahead 2-1 downing Brian Miller in the No. 6 position, 6-1, 6-2.

The Rebels answered with a win from the No. 4 position Taylor was defeated by Barlocci, 6-0, 7-5. Eilers fell to Bouras from the No. 2 slot, 7-5, 6-2, to put UNLV ahead 3-2.

The match was clinched for the Rebels from the No. 3 position Suriano fell to Burrows, 6-3, 6-2. In the No. 5 position the match between Jason Smits and Toth went unfinished.
