Utah Tennis drops 4-0 to Arizona to Close Weekend

SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah men's tennis team fell 4-0 to the University of Arizona Wildcats Saturday Mar. 14 at the George S. Eccles Tennis Center. The Utes are now 4-11 and 0-2 in Big 12 action.

DOUBLES
In doubles action, Arizona claimed the doubles point advantage with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 spots. At the No. 3 spot, Wildcats' Alejandro Arcila and Cole Stelse defeated Utah's AJ Deem and Charles Frey 6-2. However, Utah's Emmett Potter and Simeon Terziev defended with a 6-2 win over Arizona's Zoran Ludoski and Alexander Rozin.
All eyes fell onto court No. 1. between Utah's Dante Teramo and Lorenzo Esquici and Arizona's Filip Gustafsson and Glib Sekachov. Teramo and Esquici battled but ultimately fell 6-3 to Gustaffson and Sekachov. Arizona clinched the doubles point advantage going into singles play.

SINGLES
In singles action, Arizona grabbed three straight wins on courts no. 5, 4, and 6 to clinch the overall match for the Wildcats.
On court No. 1, Utah's Dante Teramo lost his first set 5-7 to Arizona's Filip Gustaffson but was ahead 4-3 before the match was left unfinished.
At the No. 2 spot, Utah's Emmett Potter dropped his first set in a nailbiter tiebreak 7-6(11) against Arizona's Zoran Ludoski. Potter and Ludoski were tied 1-1 when the overall match was clinched.
Utah's Simeon Terziev won his first set 6-2 against Wildcats' Alejandro Arcila but fell 6-2 against in the second set. Arcila was up 1-0 when the overall match was clinched and the set remained unfinished.

UP NEXT
The Utes will travel to the Sunshine State to face the UCF Knights on Marach 21 before swinging down to the desert to battle Arizona State on March 26. The Utes will return home Sunday March 29 to face the Texas Tech Red Raiders at 11 a.m. MT.
