FORT WORTH - The Utah baseball team continues at the Mountain West Conference Tournament, defeating San Diego State last night, 4-1, to force a second championship game today at 1:00 p.m. (CT).
Utah's Bennett Askew (1-4, 9.13 ERA) and San Diego State's Ryan O'Sullivan (4-3, 5.85 ERA) will start on the mound.
The game will be televised live on The Mtn., with audio and live stats available at UtahUtes.com.
Utah is 4-1 at the tournament. The sixth-seeded Utes opened the tournament on Tuesday, defeating No. 3 seed Brigham Young 2-1 to open the tournament before beating 10th ranked and No. 1 seed TCU, 2-1 on Wednesday. Utah fell to San Diego State in the winners bracket on Thursday, 9-8, to fall to the elimination bracket and set up a rematch with TCU on Friday. The Utes beat the Horned Frogs for the second time in the tournament, 6-4, to move into the title game against SDSU before winning that game to force a second championship game.
San Diego State has a 3-1 tournament record. The Aztecs, seeded fourth, defeated UNLV, 12-1, in game one on Tuesday before upsetting No. 2 seed New Mexico, 2-1, behind the arm of ace Stephen Strasburg. SDSU defeated Utah to move into the championship game last night.
