SALT LAKE CITY - A seventh student-athlete has committed to the University of Utah soccer team for 2009, head coach Rich Manning announced Tuesday. Allie Wisner, an attacking player from Bozeman, Mont., has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the Utes in the fall.
"Allie adds several positive qualities to this signing class," said Manning. "She is a hard worker and an ambitious player with good attacking skills, who can play both midfield and forward. One of her most impressive qualities is the relentless competitiveness she brings to the table."
A four-time All-State and All-Conference selection, Wisner helped Bozeman High School to three consecutive 2A State Championships and a runner-up finish as a freshman. As a sophomore, she scored the game-winning goal in the state quarterfinal and the championship games, both in overtime.
Competing for head coach Erika Cannon, Wisner was named the Offensive MVP on all three state championship squads. As a freshman, she earned the team's Golden Boot and Best Newcomer awards, en route to becoming the first freshman ever in the state of Montana to be named both the 2A All-State and All-Conference teams. She was awarded the Golden Boot again as a junior. Wisner played club soccer for the Bozeman Blitz, coached by Per Hjalmarsson.
An accomplished all-around athlete, Wisner also lettered in basketball and track at as a sophomore at Bozeman, contributing to AA state championship titles in both, and earning Best Newcomer accolades on the hardcourt. She remained committed in the classroom as well, earning Academic All-State honors all four years.
"I visited a lot of schools and knew that Utah felt like the right fit," said Wisner. "I feel like the level Utah is at, along with the current players and coaches, will make me a better player. I love the atmosphere and the goals this team has for itself and its players."
Wisner stands at 5'7 and will look to contribute at both the midfield and forward positions.
