SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah soccer team held a clinic Tuesday night at Ute Field for Firebirds FC, a youth soccer club in Salt Lake City.
"Firebirds FC is delighted to have the opportunity to come to Ute Field and meet the team," said Pert Eilers, Director of Competition for Firebirds FC. "It was a great chance for our kids to get to know the Utes and learn some new skills. We would like to thank Coach Manning and the Utes for hosting the clinic and we wish them luck this season."
The clinic featured passing, shooting and juggling drills. Utah players and assistant coaches led the clinic, which was broken into two parts to accommodate more than 100 participants.
"It was a lot of fun to come out and work with the kids tonight," said Lauren Porter, Utah's sophomore center back and a Salt Lake City native. "As a collegiate athlete it was very good to get to know some of these younger kids and reach out to a local club from our community. It was great to see so much interest in soccer from so many young kids."
The Utes open the regular season at home on Friday, Aug. 21. Kickoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. at Ute Field.
