SALT LAKE CITY - The 17th-ranked University of Utah volleyball team held an intrasquad scrimmage Friday afternoon at Crimson Court (HPER E101). It was the team's final session of two-a-day practices before classes start on Monday.
"Every scrimmage we have had so far this season has been an improvement for us," Utah's 20th-year head coach Beth Launiere said. "We seem to get more organized and execute better after each intrasquad and this one was no different. I was pleased with a lot of things. As we head into the season, the players will now get a chance to get freshened up both physically and mentally because we start having one practice per day next week."
There were a few minor changes made to the appearance of Crimson Court during the offseason.
`Crimson Court' and `Home of Utah Volleyball' signage now lines the east wall and the team's 10 NCAA Tournament appearance banners are now hung along the west wall, replacing banners of Mountain West Conference opponents.
"When people walk in now, it lets them know that this is our home," Launiere said. "This is Crimson Court. It's a strong statement."
The Utes open their season next week, Friday, Aug. 28 at Crimson Court against Arizona State. First serve is set for 7 p.m. See photos from the intrasquad scrimmage.
"We are on track [after preseason training]," Launiere said. "We have made a good amount of progress and we'll be ready."
