PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - University of Utah senior midfielder Kelly Isleib was drafted into Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Friday in Philadelphia. Sky Blue FC chose Isleib with the sixth pick in the sixth round, 53rd overall.
"This is a great day for Kelly and for Utah soccer," said Utah head coach Rich Manning. "We are proud that she has the distinction of being drafted by the champions of the best women's soccer league in the world.
"Kelly has been working hard and this is a wonderful opportunity. Sky Blue has some great forwards, including Natasha Kai. Kelly has some very unique offensive skills that will complement those attacking players well. I am sure she will impress and hopefully will get a chance to shine."
A native of Park City, Utah, Isleib finished her career as one of the most decorated players ever to wear the Crimson and White. One of only three Utes to be named all-conference all four years of her career, she is also a three-time All-Region selection and has twice been called in to the camp with the U.S. Women's National Team.
Isleib owns the school record for career assists (28) and assists in a single season (13 in 2007). She also tallied 16 career goals, including eight as a senior.
The WPS is preparing for its second season. Sky Blue FC won the inaugural WPS championship last year.
