COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah middle blocker Danielle Killpack has been named the Mountain West Conference Volleyball Player of the Week for the first time in her career, the conference office announced Monday.
Killpack, a 6-3 junior from Idaho Falls, Idaho, led the Utes to wins over then-No. 14 Colorado State and Wyoming to finish the season. In Wednesday's 3-1 win over the Rams in Fort Collins, Killpack recorded 16 kills and six blocks, while hitting .640. Killpack turned in 11 kills and seven blocks on a .688 hitting percentage in the sweep at Wyoming. Killpack did not have an error on the attack in both matches.
"Danielle played so well all weekend that I would have been shocked if she did not win this award," Utah head coach Beth Launiere said. "She put up such big numbers, especially in an impressive win at Colorado State, and then kept it up during a win at Wyoming. I am really happy for her. She deserved it."
Killpack averaged 3.86 kills, 1.86 blocks and 4.79 points per set, while hitting .659 (27-0-41) over seven sets in the two matches against the Rams and Cowgirls.
"It's a nice award for `Dani'," Launiere said. "When the team wins, we win individual awards and we were able to pull out a couple of big wins last week."
It is the third league weekly honor for the Utes this season. Karolina Bartkowiak won the award on Sept. 7 and Nov. 1.
