Dec. 17, 2010
Utah Head Coach Jim Boylen
"I'm thankful for the win. I thought our guys kept battling. They stayed together through a lot of adversity in that game. I'm very proud of our team, I thought we really played as a team tonight. Obviously we weren't perfect. Fifteen assists I thought was great for us and I thought our adjustment at halftime against the zone really helped us. I give our guys a lot of credit for making that adjustment."
"We just kept competing, we kept grinding, kept grinding, kept grinding, which is what we talked about in our program, and good things happened. "We stayed together and I'm proud of these guys.
"We had five guys in double figures which is kind of what I envisioned this team to be. We had a third and fourth scorer tonight, and a fifth scorer, which I feel if we can get a third or a fourth scorer consistently we're going to have a good basketball team. I've been waiting for [Chris] Hines and [Shawn] Glover, I think they have the talent and the ability to help us win, and I thought tonight they did that tonight."
"I'm just very proud of this group and I thought the combination of [Jason] Washburn and [David] Foster again helped us. We had 10 rebounds and 14 points from that spot, and if we can 10 rebounds and 14 from our center position we are going to have a good basketball team."
"I thought the crowd was great. I thought the crowd stuck with us, I thought they hung with us. It was frustrating at times and they hung with us and I'm thankful for that."
Sophomore center Jason Washburn
On staying in the game and coming from behind to win:
"We just had to keep going, keep our heads up, just knuckle-down. When guys keep their heads up and guys do little things, people are just going to follow, that's the game of basketball."
On the rebounding game:
"We just weren't hanging onto them, a lot of them hit my hands in the first half. David [Foster] and I, when we rebound and between the two of us get double figure rebounds in a game, that's when we usually win. Sometimes we don't have to do anything else really, and we proved we can win that way at Bradley. We didn't really score but we rebounded and beat Bradley at Bradley. Tonight, the coaches came in at halftime and told us that's all we need to do as big men, and we took it to heart. We take is personally when people outrebound us and in the second half it showed."
Junior guard Josh Watkins
On the importance of coming back to win:
"It was really import because it showed character and toughness, everything coach has preached. We all fought together, there was no individual effort. We all fought together and we won the game. That's what coach always talks about, once you come together, nobody can beat you."
Junior guard Will Clyburn
On his game-winning 3-pointer:
"I didn't know if the ball was coming to me or [Chris] Hines, but I knew one of us was going to hit it. When it came to me and I stepped up and it was a good shot."
"I didn't have any hesitation at all, I knew it was going up. I thought it was going to be short when it left my hands, I didn't know what to expect, but it went in. I was pretty wide open, when the ball fumbled at first I thought about driving it, but then I was like `man, I'm just going to take this shot right now.' "
Sophomore guard Chris Hines
On the crowd and the noise level at the end of the game:
"I've been here three years and that's probably the loudest its ever been. It was really exciting and I hope it keeps happening."
On his career-high scoring night:
"All I wanted to do was help my team win, honestly, anything I could do. I haven't been hitting my open shots lately, but my teammates have been encouraging me and the coaches have been telling me to keep shooting and keep my head up and it just happened."
Boise State Head Coach Leon Rice
"Utah is a good team and we really played well. But to win a game this close, we have to make big plays at big times. We were up 16 and they hit 3 three's in a row and we can't let them have those. And they are a big basketball team, so we were struggling hard on the inside and trying to get to the outside."
"I think it was a combination of things. They matched up their defense and we didn't respond with a better offense, our offense got worse. Our offense has to get better in those times. Players make plays down the stretch, big plays, and we have to make those plays. We had missed free throws, we had dropped balls."
"Daequon (Montreal) was terrific and he was dialed in to helping this team. He has gotten in the gym and done extra work on his shooting, and it was paying off."
