SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah head soccer coach Rich Manning has announced the signing of nine players who will join the Utes in the fall of 2010.
Manning has addressed needs in all areas of the field, signing a versatile mix of defending and attacking players that will add depth and skill to an already youthful Utah roster. The class includes two goalkeepers, two defenders, two midfielders and three players who may contribute in several roles through the midfield, at the back or going forward.
"We would like to officially welcome the class of 2014 to our Utah soccer family," said Manning. "This group is athletic and versatile. With only three seniors graduating from our team, we had specific goals in recruiting. We wanted to find players with good overall skills and a sense of the game, while also bringing in more talent at goalkeeper.
"Each of the seven field players has tremendous athletic gifts, whether they be fast, powerful or some combination of both," Manning continued. "All are capable of playing several positions for us. With the goalkeepers, Cheyanne and Hallie are talented and have championship experience. These players are joining a young team that is working hard and growing every day. We are looking forward to having this talented group join us as we get together in August."
This year's signing class includes four players from the state of Utah: Percie Allen (Sandy), Lexi Krantz (Salt Lake City), Cheyanne Mulcock (West Jordan) and Harley Spier (Lehi). Of the five out-of-state players, three hail from California: Jen Ericson (West Sacramento), Stacy Fujikuni (Moorpark) and Leslie Muirhead (Santa Cruz). Jenny Hutton (Littleton, Colo.) and Hallie Koeppen (Eagle, Idaho) round out Utah's 2010 signees.
