SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah volleyball team will participate in four exhibition events this spring, Ute head coach Beth Launiere announced Tuesday.
The Utes begin their spring schedule with an exhibition match against BYU March 17 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. MT, in Provo, Utah.
"Spring training and competition is an important training time for our players in preparation for the fall," Launiere said. "It gives all players an opportunity to gain more experience, especially the younger ones who have not had as much game time."
The annual Utah Spring Tournament will be held April 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Crimson Court. The Utes will host BYU, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State, Montana State, Salt Lake Community College, and College of Southern Idaho.
Utah then heads to the Utah Valley Tournament on April 10 in Orem, Utah, where the Utes will compete against Idaho State, Southern Utah, Weber State, Utah State, Mesa State, and Utah Valley.
Then Utes conclude their spring exhibition slate at the Colorado State Tournament in Fort Collins, Colo., on April 24 against CSU, Northern Colorado and the Metropolitan State College of Denver.
The Utes are coming off a 17-12 campaign in 2009 and finished in a third-place in the Mountain West Conference with New Mexico at 10-6 in league play. In her 20th season at the helm of Utah Volleyball, Launiere recorded her 400th victory and currently owns a 408-224 career record (all at Utah) for a .646 winning percentage.
AVCA West Region Honorable Mention and two-time All-MWC selection Karolina Bartkowiak joins middle blocker Danielle Killpack, libero Keisha Fisher and setters Stephanie Neeley and Abby Simmons as returning starters on the 2010 Utah roster.
