SALT LAKE CITY - The Runnin' Utes (13-14, 6-7 MWC) return home to face Wyoming (9-18, 2-11 MWC) Saturday. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. MT at the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
Utah is coming off a 54-43 victory at Air Force and will be looking for its second straight win at home. Wyoming has lost seven straight games and 10 of its last 11.
The first time Utah and Wyoming met this season was Jan. 27 in Laramie, Wyo., where the Utes fell by a 75-69 score. That game marked the last time the Cowboys won in league play. Junior guard Carlon Brown (Riverside, Calif.) led Utah with a career-high 31 points. Freshman guard Marshall Henderson (Hurst, Texas) chipped in 13 points and junior forward Jay Watkins (Memphis, Tenn.) added 12. Desmar Jackson was the leading scorer for Wyoming, netting 21 points, while Adam Waddell logged in a double-double with 13 points and 22 rebounds.
Utah leads the all-time series with Wyoming, 93-73, including a 58-23 advantage on its home floor. The last time Utah lost at home to the Cowboys was Jan. 30, 2008, by a 69-64 score.
Brown is Utah's leading scorer for the season with 13.2 points per game, while senior forward Kim Tillie (Cagnes-sur-Mer, France) is the Utes' top rebounder at 5.4 boards per contest. Senior guard Luka Drca (Belgrade, Serbia) is leading the U. in assists with 3.4 per game and sophomore center David Foster (Lake Forest, Calif.) is ranked No. 4 in the NCAA with 4.2 rejections per contest. He had three blocks in the previous game against UW.
Jackson is the Cowboys' top active scorer at 10.5 points per game. Wyoming lost Afam Muojeke, averaging 16.8 ppg, to a season-ending knee injury earlier this year. Waddell is the Cowboys' top rebounder at 5.8 boards per contest, while JayDee Luster leads them in assists with 4.3 per game.
In his three years as the Utah head coach, Jim Boylen has led the Utes to a 55-39 (.585) record. Wyoming head coach Heath Schroyer, also in his third year, holds a 40-50 (.444) record with the Cowboys.
Happy 40th, Huntsman Center!
Utah will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Saturday with 70's night. Originally opened as the Special Events Center, the building hosted its first game on Dec. 1, 1969 as the Utah men's basketball team defeated Stanford, 96-94.
Promotions will include 70's-themed giveaways, music and a 4-minute "History of the Huntsman Center" video at halftime, narrated by former "Voice of the Utes," Bill Marcroft.
