SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's track and field team is gearing up for a two-day meet at the Mountain State Games this weekend in Pocatello, Idaho. All events will take place in Holt Arena.
Teams in attendance include Idaho State, BYU, Montana State, Southern Utah, Utah Valley, Weber State, and the College of Idaho.
Friday's events will get underway at 12:00 p.m. MT with the 60m hurdles (pentathlon) and will end with the women's shot put at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, the Utes will open competition at 10:30 a.m. with the high jump and weight throw events and end the day with the 4x400m relay, which is set to begin at 3:15 p.m. Please see the attached schedule of events for projected start times by day and event.
"This will be a great meet in preparation for the conference championships, which is coming up," said head coach Kyle Kepler. "Our team as a whole has continued to improve each week so we hope to continue that momentum. We are fighting off some injuries and sickness right now, but we will just take things week by week,"
LAST WEEK
The Utes competed at the Bronco Invitational in Boise, Idaho. Junior Alyssa Abbott competed for the first time this season in the one-mile run, finishing with a new personal best of 4:55.08 for first place. Her time ranks third on Utah's all-time list.
Sophomore Lucy Yates won the 800m run with a time of 2:11.32.
Freshmen Angela Kaplar and Delaney Fox set new personal bests in the 60m hurdles. Kaplar had a time of 8.85 for fifth place overall, which ranks fifth on Utah's all-time best indoor performances. Fox earned seventh place in the race with a time of 9.09.
Freshman Nikkie Rudder set new personal bests in both the shot put and the weight throw. Rudder had a toss of 45-10.5 in the shot put to earn second place. Her mark is currently fifth on Utah's all-time indoor list. In the weight throw, Rudder placed ninth overall with a toss of 48-8.75.
