LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Utah women's soccer team played to a 0-0 draw Saturday at UNLV in spring exhibition action. Ute goalkeeper Hannah Turpen posted her third shutout of the spring.
"We did some very nice things in Saturday's game," said Utah head coach Rich Manning. "I thought we improved from our performance at BYU last weekend. It was great to see the things we've been working on in training applied to the game. We've been working hard on moving into the attack as a team. We were able to get more numbers forward into UNLV's end and get pressure on them higher up the field. We are excited to get back to the practice field this week and finish with a good performance Friday against Utah State."
Another highlight of the game was the return of redshirt freshman midfielder Katie Martinez, who saw her first action since late in the 2008 season. Martinez has been fighting injuries for more than a year, including compartment syndrome in her calves and a knee injury.
Utah wraps up spring exhibition play Friday, April 23, against Utah State. Kickoff at Ute Field has been moved to 7 p.m. MT.
