SALT LAKE CITY - Utah senior center fielder Kara Foster has been named to the All-Pacific Region Softball second team, the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced Thursday.
Foster ended her career second in the Mountain West Conference's all-time home run record book after hitting 64 career home runs, with the final one coming in the first game of a doubleheader May 13 at Utah Valley.
Foster is also second in school history with 165 career RBI and was 10 shy of tying Cyndee Bennett (1994-97) for the school record.
Foster was a very versatile asset for the Utes this season, ranking among the top 10 in the MWC in several categories. She tied for fourth in stolen bases (12-of-14), tied for fourth in home runs (11), sixth in total bases (97), sixth in slugging percentage (.634) and tied for eighth in triples (2).
Foster tied for the team lead with 16 multi-hit games this season and led the team with nine multi-RBI games. She had a team-high 11-game hit streak from April 16 through May 1.
The all-region teams were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region, and all the honorees will now be eligible for selection to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA All-America first, second or third teams. In addition, conference pitchers and players of the year not selected to the regional teams were added for All-America consideration.
The NFCA Division I All-American teams will be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, June 2.
Utah finished its season 26-29 overall with a 4-11 record in MWC play.
