2010 Utah Classic Match Notes
SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah volleyball team opens its 2010 season against UC Davis TONIGHT at 7 p.m. at Crimson Court in the first match of the Utah Classic.
Dan Clayton, the voice of Utah Volleyball, will have the play-by-play call for both of the Utes' matches. They can be accessed by clicking the `Ute TV (Live Video Streaming)' link under the `Multimedia' tab on the volleyball web page at utahutes.com. Live stats can be found at utahutes.com as well.
Utah Picked Second in MWC Poll: The Utes were selected to finish second in the MWC in the 2010 Preseason Coaches Poll, voted on by a panel including the nine conference head coaches and members of the media.
Utes Receiving Votes: Utah received 34 votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, released Aug. 18. MWC preseason favorite Colorado State was ranked 17th while San Diego State received 14 votes. Non-conference opponents appearing in the poll were Michigan (No. 12), San Diego (No. 22), Oklahoma (69 votes) and Missouri State (2 votes).
Protecting Crimson Court: The Utes were 11-3 at Crimson Court in 2009 and are now 23-4 at home since 2008. Utah was 6-2 in home matches against conference foes last season.
Preseason All-MWC Utes: Utah senior opposite hitter Karolina Bartkowiak (Aurora, Ill.) and senior libero Keisha Fisher (Ririe, Idaho) were named to the Preseason All-MWC Team.
