2010 Utah Classic Match Notes
SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah volleyball team continues its 2010 season against Utah State at Crimson Court in the final match of the Utah Classic.

Utah Volleyball Opens with 3-1 Win Over UC Davis: In her first match as a Ute, freshman Morgan Odale made an impressive debut with a double-double including 12 kills and 11 digs to help the University of Utah volleyball team defeat UC Davis in its season opener, 3-1 (25-22, 25-23, 16-25, 25-23) Friday at Crimson Court.
Utah (1-0) held a 10-7 edge in blocks over UC Davis in the first match of the Utah Classic. The Utes grabbed the win despite getting out hit, .247 to .221 for the match.
The Utes displayed a well-rounded offensive attack as three players, Odale, Karolina Bartkowiak and Sarah Collette, registered 12 kills apiece. Collette registered a .367 hitting percentage with 12 kills on 30 attempts and only one error. Bartkowiak committed four errors on 27 attempts for a .296 hitting percentage and Odale took a team-high 48 swings with errors for a .125 mark.

Utah Picked Second in MWC Poll: The Utes were selected to finish second in the MWC in the 2010 Preseason Coaches Poll, voted on by a panel including the nine conference head coaches and members of the media.
Utes Receiving Votes: Utah received 34 votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll, released Aug. 18. MWC preseason favorite Colorado State was ranked 17th while San Diego State received 14 votes. Non-conference opponents appearing in the poll were Michigan (No. 12), San Diego (No. 22), Oklahoma (69 votes) and Missouri State (2 votes).
Protecting Crimson Court: The Utes were 11-3 at Crimson Court in 2009 and are now 24-4 at home since 2008. Utah was 6-2 in home matches against conference foes last season.
Preseason All-MWC Utes: Utah senior opposite hitter Karolina Bartkowiak (Aurora, Ill.) and senior libero Keisha Fisher (Ririe, Idaho) were named to the Preseason All-MWC Team.
