SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah volleyball team opened preseason camp with a pair of practices Monday in HPER E109. The Utes will hold two-a-day practices for the next two days before leaving before leaving for Moab Thursday to continue preseason camp.
"I was very pleased," Utah head coach Beth Launiere said. "We started off just trying to set the stage with the fundamentals and the passing game. We took it slow and went through a lot of the keys because we didn't want to move forward until we had that in place. As the day went on, everyone was very focused. It was a great first day."
After the first practice of the season today at 10:30 a.m., the Utes held individual sessions from 2:30 to 3 p.m., before their second practice from 3 to 5 p.m.
"It's a long preseason so I just want to set the foundation," Launiere said. "And that's what we did today. For the first few days, all aspects of our system we will figure out the technical base we want to have. We'll go through our whole big picture to set the tone and then we'll start breaking things down a little more from there."
Utah opens its 2010 season Friday, Aug. 27 against UC Davis. First serve from Crimson Court is at 7 p.m.
