SALT LAKE CITY - Gigi Cresto has signed a National Letter of Intent with the University of Utah volleyball program and will start playing for the Utes next fall, head coach Beth Launiere announced.
"[Cresto] is a setter with great athleticism and skill," Launiere said. "She also brings a high level of leadership, which is a key ingredient in the setter position. She has a strong work ethic with a great attitude, which makes her a valued teammate and leader."
Gigi will be a great addition to our team, which is full of very good, young hitters. We are excited to have her as part of our program and to be a key contributor for us in the Pac-12 Conference."
Cresto, a 6'0" setter from San Diego, played club with Wave Volleyball and was selected to the All-Tournament Team at the 2010 Junior Olympics. Earlier in her career, Cresto won three medals at the Junior Olympics at various levels: bronze in the 13-Open Division, bronze in the 14-Open Division and silver at the 15-Open Division. Her teams also won various Junior Olympic qualifying events.
Cresto was also a member of the Southern California Youth Red Team in 2010 after playing with USA Volleyball's A1 Select Team in 2008.
Cresto helped Torrey Pines High School win three consecutive league championships during her sophomore, junior and senior seasons and was a three-time letterwinner for coach Brennan Dean.
