SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah women's track & field team stays in state this weekend as they compete at the Weber State Invitational. The event will be held at the Swenson Indoor Track in Ogden, Utah, and is scheduled to begin Thursday at 2 p.m. MDT.
"For some of our athletes this will be a tune up meet," said Utah head coach Kyle Kepler. "It's an opportunity to continue refining their skills. For the younger athletes it's another chance to improve and learn under competition conditions."
The Weber State Invitational marks the final meet for the Utes before the Mountain West Conference Championships. With several athletes taking the week off to rest, Utah athletes will primarily compete in the technical events and throws.
In the throwing events, Utah's Anneli Stahl looks to build on her lifetime-best performance in last week's weight throw at the Husky Classic. Last week Stahl threw a mark of 60-9.25 that was just shy of setting a new school-record. The Shot put event will be led by sophomore Nikkie Rudder. This season in the shot put, Rudder has finished in the top 10 spots at every meet.
"Regardless of the size, every meet is an opportunity to improve, and make adjustments," said Kepler. "At this time of the year everyone is in top form and competing at a high level. So you better come ready to compete or you'll get humbled very quickly."
