Nova KBM-Yale Invitational Match Notes ![]()
The University of Utah volleyball team resumes its 2011 season with four matches this weekend. The Utes entertain Nova KBM from Maribor, Slovenia in an exhibition match Tuesday at Crimson Court. First serve is set for 7 p.m.
Utah hits the road for the first time this season as it will play three matches in two days at the Yale Invitational in New Haven, Conn. The Utes open play Friday against Colgate at 5 p.m. ET, then will play a doubleheader on Saturday, starting against Boston College at 1 p.m., then against host Yale at 7 p.m. ET.

Utes on the Road: Saturday's match against Yale at John Lee Ampitheater in New Haven, Conn., will be Utah's first road match of the season. The Utes were 8-5 in road matches last year, including a 2-1 mark in non-conference matches.
For Starters: The Utes have won three of their last four road openers, including wins at Northwestern (2010), New Mexico State (2008) and Purdue (2007). Utah owns a 13-23 all-time in its first road match.
All-Tournament Utes: Sophomores Erin Redd (Spanish Fork, Utah) and Morgan Odale (Star, Idaho) were named to the 2011 Utah Classic All-Tournament team. Redd committed only eight errors on 55 attack attempts for a .291 efficiency to go with 2.67 kills per set while tying for team-high honors with three service aces. She ranked second on the Utah squad with 3.94 points per set during the opening weekend. Defensively, she led the Ute front row with 1.89 blocks per set.
Odale averaged 3.00 kills per set on a .241 hitting efficiency as well as 3.00 digs and 0.44 blocks per set during the tournament.
Smashing Debut: In her first three matches as a Ute at the 2011 Utah Classic last weekend, freshman outside hitter Chelsey Schofield (Provo, Utah) posted a team-high 3.25 kill-per-set average with 26 kills over eight sets. Schofield showed her versatility by finishing the opening weekend third on the team with an average of 2.75 digs per set. Schofield hit for 15 kills in her Ute debut to lead Utah to a 3-0 win over Weber State. She also added six digs and three blocks against Utah's in-state rival.
