SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah volleyball team opened training for its inaugural Pac-12 Conference campaign with a pair of practices Tuesday at Crimson Court. The Utes will hold two-a-day practices on Wednesday and Thursday before leaving for Park City on Friday.
"It was a very good first day," Utah head coach Beth Launiere said. "The players came in focused and fired up, yet they were really mindful. They already made some nice changes during the very first day. We accomplished a lot and there are a lot of talented volleyball players in our gym so we're excited."
After physicals, conditioning testing, and a team meeting this morning, the first practice of the season started today at 10 a.m. The Utes held their second practice of the day from 3 to 5 p.m.
Utah opens its 2011 season Friday, Aug. 26 against Weber State in the Utah Classic. First serve from Crimson Court is at 7 p.m. Tickets for Utah's inaugural Pac-12 campaign are on sale now online and by phone at 801.581.UTIX.
"There's a fine line [in our mindset] going into our first Pac-12 season," Launiere said. "We don't want to build this conference into something that is bigger and better than we are. We know we're going against the best, but we know we're pretty big, physical and athletic as well. We just have to do our best every day to become the best we can be."
