The University of Utah volleyball team returns to Crimson Court to host its second tournament of 2011, the Utah Invitational. Utah is 4-2 overall this season and will begin the weekend by facing Eastern Michigan Friday at 7 p.m. The Utes' Saturday doubleheader will start at 12 p.m., versus UC Riverside then end with a Deseret First Duel match against BYU at 7 p.m. The Utes are 4-2 after going 2-1 at both of their season-opening tournaments, the Utah Classic and the Yale Invitational.

Home Sweet Home: After going 2-1 at the Utah Classic to start this season, the Utes are 33-8 (.805) within the friendly confines of Crimson Court since 2008. Utah's all-time home record is 277-164 (.628) since the program's inception in 1975.
Yale Invitational Review: The Utes and Bulldogs both went 2-1 last weekend at the Yale Invitational with Utah taking the crown after the head-to-head tiebreaker with the win at Yale, its first road contest of the season. Utah defeated Colgate in three sets last Friday (25-13, 25-16, 26-24) in its first match at Yale, then lost in to Boston College (20-25, 25-10, 22-25, 21-25) in Saturday's first match. In what turned out to be the Yale Invite championship match, Utah beat the Bulldogs in four sets (25-19, 28-30, 25-20, 25-22).
Getting Defensive: Utah held a significant advantage in both hitting and blocking over the weekend. The Utes managed to hit at a .290 clip, while holding their opponents to .171. Utah also held a significant advantage in team blocks, turning in a 2.82 block-per-set average while its opponents managed only 1.00 block per set during the tournament. The Ute have held five of their first six opponents to .200 or below on the attack this season.
MVP! MVP! MVP!: After helping the Utes to the 2011 Yale Invitational title with a 2-1 record over the weekend, including wins against Colgate and host Yale in the championship match, Morgan Odale was named the Co-Most Valuable Player. Odale posted a team-high 4.27 kills-per-set average during the tournament and turned in a .296 hitting percentage with only 10 errors on 125 attack attempts. She pounded a career-high 23 kills against Yale on 53 attempts with only four errors for a .358 efficiency and then secured her first double-double performance of the season with a career-high-tying 18 digs.
Seeing Redd: Erin Redd led the front line of Utah's defense and was selected to the all-tournament team after registering a 1.36 block-per-set average in three matches last weekend at the Yale Invitational. Redd helped Utah outblock its opponents in all six matches this season and Redd helped the Utes outblock their foes 31 to 11 this season and they hold a 66-21 edge over the first six matches of this season. This season, Redd ranks fourth in the Pac-12 with 1.60 blocks per set and she is also eighth in service aces with 0.35 per set.
Scolding Schofield: Utah freshman Chelsey Schofield (Provo, Utah) joined Odale and Redd on the 2011 Yale Invitational All-Tournament team after placing third on the team with 2.37 kills per set and fourth on the squad with 2.36 digs per set. She also chipped in four block and two service aces to help Utah claim the tournament title. Schofield registered six kills on 17 swings without an attack error for a .353 hitting percentage in the weekend-opening win over Colgate.
