LEXINGTON, Ky. - The University of Utah volleyball team earned the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 season from the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), the organization announced Friday.
"We are as proud of academic accomplishments as we are our volleyball successes," Utah head coach Beth Launiere said. "Our players are motivated to be great in the classroom which I strongly believe leads to success in many areas of our players lives."
Leading the way for the Utes in the classroom were returners McKenzie Odale and Erin Redd, who were both named to the Pac-12 Women's Volleyball All-Academic Second Team in 2011.
Utah is one of six teams from the Pac-12 to be honored, joining California, Stanford, Oregon, Oregon State and Arizona State.
The award honors collegiate volleyball teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.30 cumulative team grade-point average on a 4.0 scale.
Preparation for the upcoming season begins on Aug. 7. Read through the 2012 media guide to learn all about the 2012 edition of the Utah volleyball team.
