With the first serve of the 2012 Utah volleyball season seven days away, utahutes.com offers a position-by-position breakdown of the Ute roster preps fans for the upcoming year as well as a look at the schedule for Utah's second season in the Pac-12 conference. This is the fifth in a five-part series about the student-athletes Utah has at each position heading into the season as well as the competition they will face.

Typical Rugged Schedule Awaits Utes in 2012
Thirteen of Utah's 33 regular-season matches this season will be against teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2011, including reigning national champion UCLA and Final Four participant USC.
Will the Utes feel more comfortable as they head into their `sophomore' season in what may be the toughest conference in the nation?
"Yes, we will feel a lot more comfortable," Utah head coach Beth Launiere said. "In so many areas with travel, the venues, opposing coaches and their styles. We will also know the opposing players that much more so nothing will be new for us any more in every aspect. There's no reason why we can't be better.
"[Breaking into the top half of the league] is our goal and I absolutely think we can achieve it. It's a big challenge. Seven teams from the Pac-12 went to the NCAA Tournament last season, so even getting into the top seven will help us reach our goal of reaching the NCAA Tournament."
