Starting Right: Utah's five straight wins marks its best season-opening streak since 2002 and is tied for the third-longest season-opening stretch in school history.
The 2000 team had the best start in school history after going 8-0, while the 1992 edition won seven straight matches at the beginning of the season.

Getting Defensive: The Ute defense has been stout early this season, holding its opponents to a .046 hitting percentage. That mark led the Pac-12 Conference as of Aug. 30. After finishing third in blocking in the Pac-12 Conference last season, Utah has 3.76 blocks per set through five matches this year to lead the league after the first week of play, while Ute opponents have only mustered a 2.65 mark. The Utes have outblocked their opponents in four of five matches in 2012.
Aggression on the Attack: Utah has averaged 13.82 kills per set through its first five matches this season, while its opponents have gone for just an 8.24 clip. A distinct differential could also be seen in the hitting percentages as the Utes are currently hitting for a .234 percentage, .178 better than the mark for their opponents.
Ute Aces Are Wild: Ute servers have registered 30 aces already this season and their opponents have only turned in 12. Utah ranks fourth in the latest Pac-12 stats and currently has a 1.76 ace-per-set average. Junior outside htiter Morgan Odale (Star, Idaho) leads the team and was ranked third in the conference with nine this season for a 0.53 ace-per-set-average. Junior middle blocker Erin Redd (Spanish Fork, Utah) is second on the squad and listed fifth in the Pac-12 stats and now has eight aces for a 0.47 clip.
Utah Valley Recap: Sophomore outside hitter Chelsey Schofield (Provo, Utah) delivered 11 kills, seven blocks and six digs to lead Utah to its third consecutive victory by a 3-0 margin, this time over Utah Valley (25-18, 25-17, 25-19), in the first match of the 2012 Utah Classic on Tuesday night in the home opener at Crimson Court. The Utes now lead the all-time series with the Wolverines, 8-1.
Utah scored six of the first eight points of the opening set, but the Utes closed the gap to one point with four consecutive points to bring the set to a 6-5 advantage and finally tied the set for the second time at seven points apiece and took their first lead at 9-8 and never looked back.
Bailey Blocks: Sophomore middle blocker Bailey Bateman (Hooper, Utah) is second in the latest Pac-12's blocking statistics with 1.81 blocks per set. She has tied her career high with eight blocks on two occasions already this season. At the USU Invite, Bateman turned in a career-high 11 kills and five blocks against Southern Utah and had eight kills initially set her career high with eight blocks against Portland.
