WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Junior outside hitter Chelsey Schofield of the University of Utah volleyball program was named the Pac-12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week. This is the first time Schofield has received a weekly honor and she is the second Ute to earn the award this season.
"The whole team played great defense at Stanford and Cal," Utah Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "Individual awards like this reflect how our defense has improved. Chelsey has worked hard and deserves this honor."
Schofield turned in a team-high 4.14 digs per set last week at No. 8 Stanford and California. She also tied for the team lead with 2.57 kills per set to go with 0.43 blocks and 0.14 service aces per set.
Schofield posted a team-high 13 digs to reach double digits in digs for the eighth time in 2013.
Schofield then turned in her fifth double-double in 2013 and the 25th of her career with 11 kills and a team-high 16 digs during Sunday's 3-1 win at California. The Provo, Utah native now has seven matches with 10 or more kills this year and 45 for her career. She has registered 12 double-digit-dig effort this season and 41 during her Ute career.
Schofield is second on the squad with 3.08 digs per set this season to go with 2.18 kills per set. She now has 851 career kills and 775 career digs.
Senior middle blocker Erin Redd-Brandon became the first Ute to earn a weekly award from the Pac-12 on Sept. 2.
The Utes head to Oregon State on Friday at 6 p.m. PT and No. 21 Oregon on Sunday at 12 p.m. PT. Both matches will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks (Regional) and live stats will be available for each respective match at osubeavers.com and goducks.com.
