PALO ALTO, Calif. - The 73rd-ranked University of Utah men's tennis team (11-11, 1-5 Pac-12) were defeated by the 41st-ranked Stanford Cardinal (10-9, 3-3 Pac-12) Saturday at the Taube Family Tennis Stadium. Sophomores Slim Hamza and Cedric Willems captured the Utes' two points from the Nos. 2 and 5 singles positions, respectively.

After the Utes were swept in doubles play, the Cardinal went up 2-0 in singles action when junior Devin Lane was defeated by Robert Stineman, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 4 spot.

At the No. 6 slot, junior Ben Tasevac then fell to Trey Strobel, 6-3, 6-3, making the score 3-0 for Stanford.

The Cardinal then captured the match deciding point when senior Dmytro Mamedov was downed by No. 39 John Morrissey, 6-1, 6-3, at the top spot.

No. 101 Hamza then posted Utah's first point at the second slot over No. 103 Nolan Paige, 6-3, 4-6, 1-0(6), making the score 4-1.

Sophomore Rafael Davidian then dropped a 6-4, 6-3 decision to Maciek Romanowicz at the No. 3 position. Willems then netted a tight 3-6, 6-3, 1-0(9) victory at the fifth spot over Daniel Ho, making the final score 5-2.
