Schedule
Eighteen of Utah's 32 regular-season matches will be against 10 teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season, including reigning national finalist Oregon. The Utes will play six matches against three teams who advanced to the Elite Eight last season (Oregon (twice), USC (twice) and Stanford (twice)) and nine matches against six schools from the 2012 Sweet Sixteen (Oregon (twice), BYU, Washington (twice), USC (twice), and Stanford (twice)).
The Utes' non-conference campaign begins with the annual Utah Classic Aug. 30-31 in the Huntsman Center with matches against Utah State (Aug. 30) before taking on 2012 NCAA Tournament qualifiers Fairfield (Aug. 31) and Northern Iowa (Aug. 31).
"(The non-conference season) is strong enough," Utah Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "We feel like we're going to be a pretty good team this year so we felt like we needed to have some pre-conference competition that was going to allow us to hopefully get us some significant wins, while preparing us for the Pac-12.
"There is definitely a fair share of matches that we feel like we need to win, there's a share of matches (probably two or three) that will be big wins if we can get them. It's a really good schedule for us to have a good RPI going into the conference schedule. There's a balance between strength of schedule and hopefully enough wins."
Utah's televised home conference matches will include the `Rumble in the Rockies' match against Colorado (Sept. 24), USC (Sept. 29), Arizona State (Oct. 24), Arizona (Oct. 27), California (Nov. 7) and Stanford (Nov. 10).
Seven of Utah's road matches will also be on live TV, beginning Oct. 11 at Stanford. The Utes' other televised road matches include California (Oct. 13), Oregon State (Oct. 18), Oregon (Oct. 20), Arizona (Nov. 14), Arizona State (Nov. 17) and the return match in the `Rumble in the Rockies' series at Colorado (Nov. 27).
"Being in the top-half of the Pac-12 means that you're in the top 25 in the country," Launiere said. "The next step for us is to get into the NCAA Tournament and be one of the top-half teams in the Pac-12."
