SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah volleyball team held a .288-.125 advantage in hitting percentage to go with a 10.0-5.0 edge in team blocks during a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-14, 25-21) in an exhibition victory over its Alumni Team on Friday in the Jon M. Huntsman Center.
"Tonight was good," Utah Head Coach Beth Launiere said. "We did a lot of things well, but we also have a lot to work on. We had an enthusiastic crowd that showed up tonight and we had a chance to get used to our home floor. It was fun playing against our Alumni because we've always been a great blocking team so it was good for us to see such an impressive block. It was a good night to get the kinks out and get more comfortable. I'm excited to get back in the gym next week."
Junior right-side hitter Shelby Dalton turned in 10 kills on 19 attempts with one error for a .474 hitting percentage to go with four digs and four blocks.
Senior outside hitter Morgan Odale turned in a match-high 11 kills on 24 attempts with one error for a .417 efficiency along with two digs and two blocks.
Senior middle blocker Erin Redd-Brandon and junior Chelsey Schofield tallied seven kills. Redd-Brandon had 13 kills without an error for a .538 hitting efficiency and four blocks, while Schofield added two blocks and a service ace.

Defensively, Schofield paced the Utes with a match-high-tying seven digs. Junior middle blocker Bailey Bateman tied for match-high honors with five blocks.
The Utes took the first three points of the match and led by as many as five (10-5) before the Alums came back to take a 16-15 lead after an 11-5 run. After a timeout, the Utes then went on an 8-1 tear to grab a 23-17 advantage. Redd-Brandon had four kills on a .444 hitting percentage in the opener and Utah held the Alums to .000 efficiency on the attack, while Odale hit .500 with three kills on six attempts.
The second set opened with seven ties before the Utes reeled off four straight points to grab an 11-7 lead. Utah cruised to a 25-14 win after hitting .371 as a team, compared to .081 for the Alums. Odale added five more kills on a .333 hitting percentage as the Utes also held a 4.0 to 0.0 edge in team blocks in the set.
Utah claimed five of the first six points of the third frame before the Utes built their lead to nine points (19-10). The Alumni team strung together five consecutive points late in the set, but could not avoid a 25-21 loss in the match-clinching set.
The Utah Alumni team was led by six kills and five digs from Cinthia (Silva) Angus. Kate (Robison) Holdeman pitched in five kills and five digs, while Lori (Brady) Baird posted a match-high-tying five blocks. Setter Abby Simmons dished out 24 assists and seven digs.
The Utes open their regular season next weekend by hosting three matches at Utah Classic in the Huntsman Center. Utah takes on Utah State Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. MT, before a doubleheader on Aug. 31 against Fairfield (12 p.m. MT) and Northern Iowa (7 p.m. MT).
