WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - The University of Utah volleyball team was ranked ninth in the Pac-12 Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, as released by the conference office on Wednesday.
Utah has finished ninth in the Pac-12 each of the last two seasons after being selected 10th in each preseason poll.
Stanford was voted the preseason favorite after receiving 10 first-place votes, followed by USC (two first-place votes), Washington, Oregon, UCLA, Arizona State, California and Arizona, while Colorado, Washington State and Oregon State followed Utah in the voting.
Pac-12 teams have traditionally been among the best in the nation. In 2012, six teams were ranked in the top 25 at some point during the season with five spending most of the year in the top 10, including two teams earning No. 1 rankings for several weeks. In addition, seven teams earned NCAA Tournament bids in 2012 with Oregon advancing to the national championship match.
Utah will compete in 14 matches that will be televised live on the Pac-12 Networks this season, beginning with the nationally-televised Deseret First Duel match against BYU in the Jon M. Huntsman Center on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. MT.
The Utes begin their 2013 season by hosting the annual Utah Classic in the Huntsman Center on Aug. 30-31 with a trio of matches against Utah State, Fairfield and Northern Iowa.
