There have been seven win streaks of 10 or more matches in Utah volleyball history, six of which have come under Head Coach Beth Launiere. The school record is 25 consecutive wins from Sept. 3-Nov. 24, 2006. The Utes won 12 matches in a row from Sept. 11-Oct. 16, 2004.There have been three different 11-match win streaks in Utah history, from Nov. 3-17, 1978, Sept. 6-Oct. 2, 1997 and Oct. 30-Dec. 6, 2008.
For Starters: Utah's 10-0 record to start this season is best start to a season in school history. The previous best start in Utah history came when the 2000 team started 8-0, while the 1992 squad won seven straight matches to open its campaign.
Utes On the Defensive: Nine of Utah's 10 opponents this season have hit under .200. Ute opponents have combined to hit .140 so far this season, which ranks fourth in the Pac-12.
On the Block: In the latest statistical rankings released by the Pac-12 Conference, Utah leads the conference in blocking. The Utes currently average 2.97 blocks per set. Senior middle blocker Erin Redd-Brandon (Spanish Fork, Utah) leads the Pac-12 with 1.52 blocks per set.
All-Tournament Team Utes: A trio of Utes were named to the Wolverine Classic All-Tournament Team. Redd-Brandon was named the MVP, while.Morgan Odale (Star, Idaho) and Chelsey Schofield (Provo, Utah) earned all-tournament honors as well.
Bragging on Redd-Brandon: Redd-Brandon was named the Most Valuable Player of the Wolverine Classic after posting 2.50 blocks per set with 29 block assists and one solo block. Redd-Brandon had at least nine blocks in all three matches this week and also hit fora team-high .429 hitting percentage on the attack for a 2.67 kill-per-set average, which finished second on the squad.
This season, Redd-Brandon is leading the Pac-12 1.56 blocks per set with a total of 60 block assists this season as well as a block solo. Redd-Brandon was named the Pac-12 Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 2, the first Ute volleyball player to ever earn a weekly award from the Pac-12.
Redd-Brandon Climbs Utah's Career Blocks List: Redd-Brandon's name is littered throughout the Utah record book. She is already seventh in school history with 452 career total blocks (428 block assists and 24 block solos) and is 19 away from tying Mikki Kane-Barton (473 from 1992-93) for sixth place in school history. Redd-Brandon is fifth on Utah's all-time career list with 428 block assists, which is 21 away from catching McKelle Stilson (449 from 1998-2001) for fourth place in school history. She also has 911 career kills on the attack and is 89 away from becoming the 15th member of Utah's 1,000-kill club.
Morgan to the Max: Odale hit .344 on the attack last weekend to earn her All-Tournament Team recognition at the Wolverine Classic with 2.08 kills and 2.17 digs per set to help Utah earn three more victories and improve to 10-0 this season for its best start in school history. Odale has been selected to the all-tournament team in all three events Utah has competed in early this season.
Odale has four double-figure matches in both kills and digs this season with two double-doubles. She is contributing 2.26 kills and 0.23 aces per set on a .309 hitting percentage in 2013. She also has 2.46 digs and 0.51 blocks per set.
Exclusive Company: Already a member of the Utah 1,000-kill and 100-ace club, Odale pushed her career dig total to 927 and is now 73 shy of becoming the eighth member of Utah's 1,000-dig club. If she reaches that milestone, Odale will also join exclusive company as only two other players in school history have joined three of Utah's milestone clubs (Jenni Eyre (1984-87) and Lori Baird (2005-08)).
