SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah volleyball team will play in three exhibition events during its spring season, Ute head coach Beth Launiere announced Thursday.
"Spring competitions are a great way to measure the progress we've made during the winter and spring training sessions," Launiere said. "It's a nice chance to play other teams and create a competitive environment in the offseason."
The Utes began their spring training on Monday, Feb. 24 and will start their competition schedule by hosting their annual tournament, the Utah Spring Invitational on Saturday, Mar. 29 in Crimson Court (HPER E101).
Utah will face BYU, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State, Montana State and Salt Lake Community College.
The Utes travel to BYU for a Friday, Apr. 4 match against the Cougars in Provo, Utah's Smith Fieldhouse before concluding their spring exhibition schedule at the Utah Valley Spring Invitational on Saturday, Apr. 12 in Orem, Utah.
Last season, Utah returned to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2008 and earned a 3-1 first-round victory over Yale in University Park, Pa. This was Utah's first time in the tournament since 2008 and the 11th appearance in school history. All 11 trips have come since 1998.
The Utes finished 26th in the NCAA's final RPI rankings and ended with a 21-13 overall record. Utah posted a 9-11 mark in Pac-12 Conference play, which tied with Colorado for seventh in the league standings. This was also Utah's first season with 20 or more wins since 2008 and the 14th under Launiere.
