SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Utah senior middle blocker Bailey Bateman has been named the Pac-12 Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today.
Bateman was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Lipscomb Invitational this past weekend after notching 15 total blocks for an average of 1.50 blocks per set, while helping guide Utah to wins over East Tennessee State, Georgia Tech and Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn.
Bateman opened the tournament with a team-high five blocks in Utah's win over ETSU on Friday and then closed out the event with a six-block performance against the tournament hosts Saturday evening. She collected four blocks in a sweep over Georgia Tech as well.
Along with her defensive efforts, Bateman recorded 25 kills on .373 hitting and averaged 2.58 points per set in four matches last week.
This marks the first time Bateman has won weekly POW honors and the fourth time overall for the Utah Volleyball program. All four Pac-12 weekly awards for the Utes have been defensive selections.
The Utes (9-0) will return to action this Wednesday, Sept. 17, as they travel to Logan, Utah, to face Utah State. First serve is set for 7 p.m. at the Estes Center.
