Utah Track and Field Opens 2015 Season at BYU Preview

SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah women’s track and field team opens the 2015 indoor season this Friday, Jan. 9 at the BYU Preview. The event will be held in the Smith Fieldhouse on the Brigham Young campus in Provo, Utah and will begin at 3:00 p.m. with the weight throw.
Competing for the Utes will be four throwers including Destanae Howerton-Davis in the shot put, who will return to action after redshirting last season. Accompanying Howerton-Davis in the shot put will be sophomore Kassie Nagel. Nagel is coming off a 12th-place performance at the Pac-12 Championships last season and looks to continue to progress as she transitions into her sophomore season.
In the weight throw, the Utes will rely on the veteran leadership of senior Aoife Hickey. Hickey qualified for the NCAA Preliminaries last year, finishing 14th in the hammer throw with a mark of 187 feet, 4 inches. Sophomore Ilse Kaaja will also compete for the Utes.
