Utah Men's Tennis Sends Quartet to ITA Regional Championship Semifinals

Albuquerque, N.M. - Utah men's tennis will send four players into the semifinals at the 2015 ITA Regional Championships this weekend.

In doubles play, sophomores Santiago Sierra and Freddie McGeehan reached the semifinals by upsetting fourth-seeded Rocha/James (Denver), 8-6. The Ute duo will face top-seeded Sabatka/Van Leijsen (New Mexico) Saturday at 10 a.m.

Two rounds of singles matches were played on Friday. Freshman Dan Little defeated two BYU players to reach the semifinals in singles. In the round of 16 he beat Andrey Goryachkov, 6-4, 6-2 and in the quarterfinals he defeated Keaton Cullimore with the same score. Little will play for a spot in the finals Saturday at 1 p.m. against Yannick James (Denver).

Joining Little in the semifinals is senior Matt Cowley. The Utah native needed two tough three-set matches to advance past third-seeded Hayden Sabatka (New Mexico), 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 and 11th-seeded David Fox (Denver), 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Cowley will face No. 2 seed Diogo Rocha (Denver) at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
