Head coach Larry Krystkowiak
Describing the game…
"Well, I mean, not what I really expected I guess. With a lot of points scored between those two teams. Last year, I think it was 53-49. It was kind of the tale of two games. It was physical all throughout the ball game, there's no doubt about that. We had a couple different stretches where they made a bunch of three's. That is not typical necessarily for San Diego State or at least what our scouting report was in the first half. I thought it was a combination of them cleaning up a few second shots and hitting some threes. That was the tale of the tape. I think a little the isolation basketball late where they put their heads down and got to the free throw line and put some heat on us that way. Again had some guys hitting threes. It was real competitive, that's a good team. The two things that we talked about was eliminating our turnovers and for us to have nine turnovers against that team, I thought that was a real positive. And then we didn't get hurt to badly on the offensive glass. We were even with them rebounding and certainly, we would take that. Those were the two things that I thought were a difference in the ball game."
On scoring droughts…
"That's what I talked to the team about after the game. That is important for us to start identifying. We were up nine then we were down two all of a sudden. Those kind of swings we need to figure out a way to extinguish, put an end to them. We will take a look at what we need to do to improve that. That is a big key in basketball, I think, when you have a little lead, you need to put your foot on the peddle and keep it going. There were number of those, I think, three or four of major swings throughout the course of the game that we need to certainly need to improve."
Starters in double digits…
"I'm really pleased with that. I've always been a fan of getting a team that has four, five, six guys flirting with double figures. If we could make a habit of that, I think that would be terrific. I think from an offensively point of view it's great to have some different weapons. It's really hard to have somebody on the top of the scouting report thats always the head of the snake that you have to shut down. I think that we do have some pretty good offensive firepower. Jakob in the post, and Kuzma, does a nice good job down there, we have some shooters around the floor and have some guys that could hurt you. We need to get better, clean up some of our execution and timing, which is going to come. But our identity in how much success we have on the season is going have a lot to do with how we defend. We have to make some pretty marketed improvements with our defensive effort. I'd love to be able to have multiple guys in double figures on a nightly basis. I think that would be great."
Sophomore Jakob Poeltl
Feelings on winning the game…
"It feels great. It was a very, very tough game. They are super physical. They are tough in the boards. But I think we were prepared for that. We did a pretty good job over the 30, 25 minutes. The rest we just have to play out and get better in practice. We have to concentrate on the next games."
Thoughts on Jordan's play…
"He has been knocking down threes. Its crazy, [but] hey are all just going in. They are even contested. Its great, its basis off the floor and gives us bigs in the paint more space. If he keeps shooting like that, I think we are going to see some more 20-point nights."
Thoughts on Brandon Taylor making big shots…
"I think for us it doesn't really matter who's scoring the basketball. If Brandon gets after a first tough game, if he gets going in a second game, thats great for us because he is great shooter and offensive player. The other team is going to have to respect that. Its the same thing for Jordan. We have to space the floor. It gives everyone more room for drives and post ups. Obviously, its great but, it doesn't matter to us who is scoring. "
Senior Jordan Loveridge
On being the slump-breaker…
"That doesn't really go through my mind. I know we have to make some buckets in a tight game like that. If I am the one to be open, I know I have to hit those shots for my team But other than that, its not me thinking I need to hit a shot or anything like that. Its kind of a mindset as a team. We have to get going whoever has an open shot, we have to knock them down."
Thoughts on if you don't get the game going…
"I think its more having confidence in everyone. Being a senior, being a leader, letting guys know next shot, we can get going. WE are a great shooting team. I don't really worry about I need to do this because I am a senior or doing that. I am just trying to win games and make everyone better."
Thoughts on being more confident in close games…
"I am for sure. Just having played four year, you get more confident each year. You know how each game goes especially in big games like this. You get to be in these games and you know how important each possession and defensive and offense are."

VISITOR QUOTES
Head Coach Steve Fisher
On almost beating No. 16 Utah…
"I yell more than I normally yell after a hard fought game because we had a chance to win the game. We can't do some of the things we did and/or fail to do some of the things we did if you're going to win. The number one theme was, it had to be about two and a half minutes to go, we are ahead 30-24 and they went on a 14-2 run to end the half, including back-to-back threes to end the half. It's huge and you cannot let that happen. We competed but we are supposed to compete and I expect us to compete and we will compete. I am very disappointed we didn't find a way to get a win. We had chances and to their credit they made 20 out of 24 free throws in the second half and they made plays when they had to. We had chances right to the last 20 seconds."
On team play down the stretch…
"I think at the half we only had one turnover, if I'm not mistaken, and we had 10 second half turnovers some being at a critical stage. You have to find a way to get a shot. You can't score if you can't get a shot. Too many what you would be unforced errors that we created for ourselves. We have guard smarter. You know, Zylan fouling out having a couple fouls no matter what level or grade of experience you are you can't foul and have to know where you are and he will learn. His is disappointed, but we needed him and we couldn't have him in those big stretches. We will get better. We are determined to do that and we were hopefully and felt that we could come in and get a win and for that we are very disappointed."
On Winston Shepard…
"He played terrific at both ends. The thing I told him at one timeout after Winston had scored, I said he is making some baskets but the most important thing he is doing is rebounding the ball. He had some huge rebounds for us at both ends of the floor. Kept us in the game, got us close in the game and gave us a chance to win. He was very, very good the second half."
On Jakob Poeltl…
"He's big and I thought at times we fouled him and I don't know how many free throws he had in the first half but you give him stuff going right at the rim and he is going to make it. He is a very good player and this won't be his last double-double. I'm sure on that. We were hoping he would miss a couple of those free throws, it turned out for us exactly how we hoped it would as we were pressing and I know they didn't want him to have the ball. Back-to-back times he got the ball on inbounds passes and to his credit, he stepped to the line and went 4-4 from the line on free throws."
