SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - Sophomore outside hitter Adora Anae was named to the 2015 All-Pac-12 First Team, the league office announced on Tuesday. The all-conference selections were voted on by the league's 12 head coaches.
Anae becomes just the second Utah player in program history to earn All-Pac-12 First Team honors, following Shelby Dalton who earned the honor last season. This is Anae's first All-Pac-12 Team honor and second overall conference postseason selection after being named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team last season.
Anae had one of the more impressive statistical seasons in program history as she etched her name into the record books on several occasions in 2015. The Laie, Hawaii native set a new rally-scoring single-match school record in just her third match of the season, posting 26 kills against Lipscomb. She would go on to break her own record two more times after collecting 27 kills against Cal back on Oct. 18 and then re-breaking that mark with 28 kills against Oregon State just a few weeks later on Nov. 1.
Anae, who recorded 20 or more kills in a school-record 12 matches, finished the season with 21 kills against Colorado, giving the second-year player 501 kills for the season. She became just the second player in school history to eclipse the 500-kills mark in a single-season, surpassing Sheila Cottrell-Sorensen's mark of 500 kills for the single-season school record. She was the first Utah player to record more than 400 kills in a season since Kathryn Haynie tallied 423 kills back in 2007.
Anae also led the Utes with 388 digs this past season, finishing the year just 12 digs shy from the 400-digs mark. However, she did become the first player to lead the squad in both kills and digs since Chelsey Schofield-Olsen posted a team-leading 336 kills and 399 digs back in 2013.
Anae ranked fourth in the Pac-12 with 4.25 kills per set, but she was just one of two players to record 500 or more kills on the season (Smantha Bricio, USC, 578 kills). Nationally she ranks No. 20 overall in kills and No. 34 in kills per set.
Freshman middle blocker Berkeley Oblad was also recognized by the league on Tuesday, earning Pac-12 All-Freshman Honorable Mention.
Oblad recorded 180 kills (1.57/set), nine service aces and 95 total blocks in her first season with the Utes. The Henderson, Nev. native was second on the team with her 95 total blocks and ranked third with 0.83 blocks per set.
Oblad's single-match career-highs include 11 kills (three times) and seven total blocks, which she posted on two different occasions.
Anae finished the season playing in all 118 of Utah's sets, while Oblad made an appearance in 115 sets.
