SALT LAKE CITY - Utah volleyball 2016 signee Bailey Choy has earned numerous postseason accolades following a tremendous season where she led her 'Iolani Raiders high school squad to a state championship final appearance.
Choy, who signed a National Letter of Intent to play with the Utes beginning next fall, was named a Hawaii Fab 15 selection, she was named the Interscholastic League of Honolulu (ILH) Division I Player of the Year and most recently has been named the Hawaii Gatorade Player of the Year, according to USA Today.
"It is such a prestigious honor to be named player of the year from the state of Hawaii," Utah head volleyball coach Beth Launiere said. "So many great players have come from the islands, and have had both great high school and collegiate careers. Bailey is a talented player and we are very excited to have her be part of our program next year."
Following an all-state honorable mention selection as a junior in 2014, Choy went on to record 574 assists, 197 digs and 15 service aces, leading the Raiders (17-3) to the Division I state final this past season. The Honolulu Star-Advertiser also named her the All-State Player of the Year.
After guiding her squad to the state championship game, Choy was later named a first team all-state selection and then became the first player in Hawaii since 2002 to be named the Division I Player of the Year after not earning first team all-state honors the year prior.
It was just announced earlier this week that Choy was named the Hawaii Gatorade Player of the Year and a Volleyball Magazine High School All-American. Choy becomes the first Gatorade POY to sign with the Utes since Jessie Jorgensen was named the Utah Gatorade POY back in 2014.
