SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah track and field team travels to Los Angeles for the Pac-12 Championships, held May 16-17 at UCLA.
The Utes have several athletes who will be looking for strong performances at the conference meet.
Sophomore javelin thrower Megan Glasmann has the 13th-best mark in the NCAA in the event with a school-record throw of 168'4". The mark is second overall in the Pac-12 and seventh in the West. Glasmann finished second in the event last year at the Pac-12 Championships as a freshman at Stanford.
Freshman Sarah Feeny recently ran a personal-best time of 4:18.24 in the 1,500 and has the NCAA's 26th-best time in the event (8th in the Pac-12, 10th in the West). She is second in the country among freshmen in the event.
Ilse Kaaja has an NCAA top-40 toss in the hammer throw (197'11") and is in the top 20 in the region. Kaaja finished sixth in the hammer at the Pac-12 Championships as a freshman last year, and she was also the top freshman at the West Regional meet.
Rebekah Winterton, who has finished among the top eight the past two years at the Pac-12 Championships in the 10,000, will not be running in the event this year due to injury but may run the 5,000. The Utes hope to have her back in the 10,000 for the West Regional, where she has a top-30 time nationally and is among the top 20 competitors in the West.
Sophomore Alissa Atisme broke the Utah school records in both the 100 (11.78) and 200 (24.16) this season.
Other Utes who will be looking for strong performances include sophomore Christine Van Brocklin in the hurdles, sophomore Becky Sarmiento in the steeplechase and freshman Shaylen Crook in the 10,000. Sarmiento is third all-time at Utah in the steeplechase and Crook is among the top 10 in the Pac-12 in the 10,000.
The championships will be tape delayed on the Pac-12 Networks, debuting on Sunday, May 24, at 9:00 a.m. PT.
