SALT LAKE CITY -- The annual Utah Volleyball Classic, along with an additional 11 home contests and 13 television matches highlight the 2015 Utah Volleyball schedule, which was released on Monday.
Utah head volleyball coach Beth Launiere, who enters her 26th season with the Utes, announced that her squad will host a total of 14 home matches, compete in three tournaments (one home, two away) and play in 11 road contests during the 2015 campaign.
The Utes will open the season at home with the Utah Classic (Aug. 28-29) before facing Utah State (Sept. 1) in the team's first road match of the season. Utah will then head to Spokane, Wash. (Sept. 4-5) to compete in the Gonzaga Invitational before rounding out tournament play in Louisville, Ky. (Sept. 11-12) at the Louisville Active Ankle Challenge.
Utah's tournament opponents in 2015 include: Idaho State, Cal State Northridge and Lipscomb (Salt Lake City); Montana, Wyoming and Gonzaga (Spokane), along with Louisville, Ohio and Seton Hall (Louisville).
"Our preseason tournaments include matches against some very strong opponents," said Lauinere. "We feel like facing these teams will prepare us well for the Pac-12 schedule."
Utah will kickoff the first of 13 televised contests on Thursday, Sept. 17, with a home match against BYU. The Utes and Cougars will be meeting for the 88th time overall and the 13th time as part of the Deseret First Duel series.
"It will be great to get BYU at the Huntsman Center this year," said Launiere. "It is a match that we know the fans enjoy and we look forward to competing against them as always".
Utah will open the 2015 Pac-12 schedule at home with a televised contest against Colorado on Wednesday, Sept. 23, then head to Pullman, Wash. on Friday, Sept. 25 to face Washington State in the team's first Pac-12 road match of the season.
The Utes will remain on the road that following week with another pair of games in the Pacific-Northwest, facing Oregon State (Oct. 2) and Oregon (Oct. 3), but then return home to host six of its next eight contests in Salt Lake City.
Utah will open a four-match home stand with contests against UCLA (Oct. 9) and USC (Oct. 11) before closing out the two-week stretch against Stanford (Oct. 16) and California (Oct. 18). Due to a scheduling conflict inside the Huntsman Center on Oct. 18, Utah's match-up with the Golden Bears will be the squad's only match played inside Crimson Court in 2015.
Following a pair of games in the desert against Arizona State (Oct. 23) and Arizona (Oct. 25), Utah returns home to begin the second-half of the Pac-12 schedule with home dates against Oregon (Oct. 30) and Oregon State (Nov. 1).
A road trip to Los Angeles to face UCLA (Nov. 6) and USC (Nov. 8) is followed by another two-match home stand with Arizona (Nov. 12) and ASU (Nov. 14), but the Utes will then close out the 2015 campaign with three of its last four matches on the road.
Utah travels to the Bay Area to face Cal (Nov. 19) and Stanford (Nov. 20) before returning home to host Washington (Nov. 25) in the team's final home match of the season. The Utes will then close the regular-season on the road at Colorado (Nov. 27).
"As always, I expect the Pac-12 to be one of the toughest conferences in the country," said Launiere. "There just are no easy matches and you have to be prepared every night. We love the competitiveness of it and relish the challenge because we know that it will make us better."
