University of Utah soccer head coach Rich Manning announced the addition of Molly Poletto as volunteer assistant coach this afternoon.
"We are thrilled to have Molly move into an assistant coach position to continue her work with our goalkeepers," Manning stated. "We searched extensively and found the best candidate right under our noses. She has worked hard and put in time over the last four years to learn her craft with Utah Youth Soccer, Region IV Olympic Development, college camps, coaching courses and here at Utah. Several top youth and college coaches that Molly has worked with have commented on the fantastic quality of coaching she has done with them."
"I'm really excited for the opportunity to work with this team and compete in such a world-class conference," Poletto said. "We have an outstanding group of goalkeepers and I can't wait to work with them."
"We have a tradition of goalkeeping excellence," Manning added. "Our current group is top-notch. They will benefit right away as Molly knows them very well and is best prepared to continue on the path set forth by former volunteer assistant Justin Fite. It was difficult for Molly to have to retire from playing, however, she never complained and made the best of a tough situation. I am proud of her and I am excited for her to coach our goalkeepers."
For the past three seasons, she had served as an undergraduate assistant after concussions forced her to retire. Poletto also coaches the goalkeepers for Utah Avalanche and works with the Region 4 goalkeepers.
Poletto holds a USSF "B" license while working with the state's ODP program. She also instructs coaches trying to attain their USSF "E" licenses.
Poletto graduated from the University of Utah in 2015 with a degree in communications and a minor in psychology. She is currently working toward a masters degree in sports psychology.
Prior to Utah, Poletto attended Cherry Creek High School in Englewood, Colo., and was named Most Outstanding Player three straight years (2008, `09, `10). She helped lead CCHS to the 2011 Region championship.
She was also a member of the U.S. Youth Soccer U-17 National Team (2009) and U-15 National Team (2008) while winning back-to-back Colorado Youth Soccer state championships with Colorado Rush (2009, `10).
