SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah soccer team has been picked to finish tenth in the Pac-12 Conference this season, according to a preseason poll of the league's coaches, released today. The Utes are a year removed from a third-place finish which earned them a sixth trip to the NCAA Tournament.
Stanford was picked to win the conference and is coming off a trip to the NCAA Women's College Cup in 2014. In the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) preseason rankings, Stanford is third overall and the MAC Hermann Trophy preseason watch list has two Cardinal players on it.
Reigning conference champion, No. 4 UCLA, was slated to finish second with USC and No. 18 California in a tie for third. Arizona State and Colorado were picked to go fifth and sixth respectively with No. 20 Washington slotted in seventh. Arizona, Washington State, Utah, Oregon and Oregon State rounded out the poll
Utah kicks off the regular season in 11 days with a road contest at Marquette. The first home game for the Utes will be Friday, August 28 against Houston at 4:30 p.m.
Utah also plays nine games on television this season, five at Ute Field. The slate includes the aforementioned home opener vs. Houston as well as matches against Utah State (Fri., Sept. 18), Stanford (Fri., Sept. 25), Washington (Sun., Oct. 11) and Colorado (Fri., Nov. 6).
