SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The University of Utah volleyball team has been picked to finish 10th in the 2015 Pac-12 Volleyball Preseason Coaches Poll, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
The Utes, who were picked 10th in last season's coaches poll, went 20-13 overall and 9-11 in Pac-12 play, finishing in a tie for seventh-place in the league standings. Utah went just 2-10 in the first half of conference-play last season, but then surged to a 7-1 mark down the stretch, while earning the program's second-straight at large berth to the NCAA Tournament.
Utah went 1-1 in the first two rounds of postseason action, defeating Kansas State in straight sets before falling in five sets to then No. 11-ranked Nebraska.
Stanford received 11 of 12 first-place votes for a total of 121 points to take top honors in this season's poll. Arizona State followed in second with 99 total points, while Washington rounded out the top three spots, earning the league's final first-place vote for a total of 97 points.
Oregon (94 points) was tabbed fourth in the poll and USC (84) was voted fifth. Colorado (61), Arizona (60), UCLA (57) and Oregon State (35) were picked ahead of Utah, while California (28) and Washington State (22) completed the preseason poll, respectively.
Sophomore outside hitter Adora Anae (Laie, Hawaii) was one of 14 players named to the Preseason All-Pac-12 Volleyball Team. She becomes the first Ute player to be named to the preseason squad since Utah joined the conference in 2011. Anae was a Pac-12 All-Freshman Team selection in 2014.
Utah returns eight letterwinners from last season's squad, which includes returning starters Anae and Carly Trueman.
The Utes open the 2015 season hosting the annual Utah Volleyball Classic on Aug. 28-29. Utah will play Idaho State on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. and will then face Cal State-Northridge (10 a.m.) and Lipscomb (7 p.m.) on Aug. 29.
