SALT LAKE CITY - Coming off back-to-back NCAA tournament appearances, the Utah volleyball team reports to preseason camp on Friday with practices set to begin on Monday.
Head coach Beth Launiere, who enters her 26th season at the helm of the volleyball program, and the Utes will officially get underway Monday afternoon in preparation the 2015 campaign.
Utah opens camp with 17 players on the roster that includes eight returning letterwinners from last season's squad that went 20-13 overall and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
Kendall Cygan and Brenna DeYoung are the team's only returning seniors to the team, while Bailee Kendall transfers in as a senior from Salt Lake Community College and most recently, College of Idaho.
Tess Sutton and Alyssa Koenig both return for their junior campaigns and Madison Legerski transfers to the team following two seasons at Casper College.
Utah returns four sophomores from last season's postseason squad, including three players that saw significant playing time as freshmen last season. Adora Anae, Eliza Katoa and Carly Trueman, who combined to start 57 matches in 2014, return to the team alongside fellow sophomore McCall Phillips.
The Utes will have a combined seven freshmen on the roster as Jessie Jorgensen, who received a medical redshirt in 2014, joins Emma Kirst and Caroline Sipiora as the team's three returning redshirt freshmen to go along with incoming freshmen Megan Boudreaux, Berkeley Oblad, Megan Shughrou and Emily Twohig.
Utah will conduct just one afternoon practice on Monday and will then follow with two-a-days throughout the remainder of the first week of camp. The Utes will have a closed intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 15, and then following another week of two-a-days, will host the Red & White scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 7 p.m. The Red & White scrimmage will be held in the Huntsman Center and it will be open to the public.
The Utes open the season hosting the annual Utah Volleyball Classic on Aug. 28-29. Utah will play Idaho State on Aug. 28 at 7 p.m. and will then face Cal State-Northridge (10 a.m.) and Lipscomb (7 p.m.) on Aug. 29.
