BALTIMORE, Md. - The Seattle Reign selected Utah goalkeeper Lindsey Luke in the fourth round of the 2016 National Women's Soccer League College Draft this afternoon.
"This is an absolute dream come true for me," Luke said. "Waking up this morning my heart was beating out of my chest. I didn't see it live because I had turned {the draft} off. I followed the first couple rounds on Twitter and then my mom texted me 'OMG'."
"What a great moment," Utah head coach Rich Manning said. "Lindsey has worked really hard to develop her game. We are so proud of the player and person she has become and we are sure she will put everything into this opportunity."
No Utah player has earned more accolades from the Pac-12 in program history than Luke. She was named the Pac-12 Goalkeeper of the Week seven times during her career, most for any Ute in program history.
An All-Pac-12 performer and NSCAA All-Region selection, Luke set the single-season shutout mark for Utah during her sophomore season with nine blankings and finished with 25 in her career.
She also finished six saves shy of setting a new career record for Utah goalkeepers and her 367 stops placed her eighth among all current Division 1 goalkeepers (74 total games). This season, she also ranked second in the Pac-12 with 4.55 saves per contest.
"Everything in my life teaches me to have faith in the plan that has been put out before me," Luke added. "Whatever path my life leads me down is the right one. I know I don't have a lot of patience but everything I've been through has taught me that I need to keep being the person I am and continue to work hard."
In 2014, Luke finished second in the Pac-12 in save percentage (.825) and saves (4.95) as well as accumulating seven shutouts.
In 2013, she backstopped Utah to the NCAA Tournament with a save percentage of .894, fifth in the nation. She also wrapped up her season with a goals-against average of 0.57, 19th in the nation.
In 2012, Luke earned Pac-12 All-Freshman honors and was named the CollegeSoccer360 Primetime Performer and Player of the Week.
Luke was one of five Pac-12 picks during the four-round draft. She is the fourth draft pick for the Utes and first since 2010 Kelly Isleib. Former Ute Allie Wisner played with the Reign last season.
The Reign won the NWSL Supporters Shield this past season, reaching the finals, and has a roster consisting of five U.S. National Team members, including goalkeeper Hope Solo and forward Megan Rapinoe.
"I didn't think I would ever be in their presence," Luke added. "It's an honor to get the chance to earn from them, on and off the field."
