SALT LAKE CITY- The Utah women's track and field team heads to Boise, Idaho this weekend to compete at the Bronco Invite. The meet will be held at the Jacksons Indoor Track beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
"We are excited to compete and see where we are at," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "We will get started in earnest this weekend with primarily sprints, jumps and hurdlers. For the veterans, it will be a chance to find out where they are at and see how their training over the winter break has held up. For the kids that are beginning their college careers, it is a chance to learn what it takes to race in Division I track and field. This meet will have a wide array of levels of competitors and there are some really good kids at other schools who will provide a really great challenge."
Juniors Alissa Atisme, Grace Englund and Rhianna Williams will lead the sprinters as they look to make their first big splash as upperclassman. Atisme is the current school record holder in four events at Utah, including the indoor 55 (7.18) and 200 (24.56). Englund captured tenth in the 800 at the Pac-12 Championships last season. Williams redshirted the 2015 outdoor track season, however, she captured ninth in the 400 during the indoor season after recording a school-record time of 54.46 seconds at the MPSF Championships.
The jumping events will feature multiple freshmen competing for the Utes. Junior Courtney Jost will lead this group after redshirting last season. Jost currently ranks second all-time at Utah in the indoor triple jump (39'0.25") and is fourth in the outdoor triple jump (39'1"). Freshmen Eliza Hansen, Morganne Jones and Ann Wingeleth will make their collegiate debuts for Utah.
The hurdle events will feature junior Christine Van Brocklin and sophomore Madison Lanford. Van Brocklin is currently ranked in the top 10 all-time at Utah in the 100 hurdles (outdoor) and 60 hurdles (indoor).
