Emma Kirst chipped in with her career-high seven total blocks, while the Utes (17-7, 8-5 Pac-12) collected its first-ever season series sweep over the Bears (9-14, 3-10). Friday's victory also marks the 750th win in program history.

Â
Utah opened with a kill from Anae then closed out a 4-0 run with a block from Oblad and Kirst, on the way to taking the first set 25-18. Anae led the charge with seven kills, while Kirst added a set-high four total blocks. Utah out-blocked the Bears 5.0-2.0 in the frame.
Â
The Utes jumped out to an 8-4 lead in the second set before consecutive kills from Cal pulled the visiting squad back within two points, but junior
Carly Trueman registered Utah's next four points with three kills and a solo block effort that extended Utah's lead to 12-6. Utah had another six-point lead up 17-11, but Cal came back with a 5-1 run and later got back-to-back points to make it 20-19 still in favor of the Utes.
Â
Kills from Anae and Kirst forced Cal to call timeout, but Anae registered a block out of the break to give the Utes a 23-19 lead. Anae would tally another kill and the Utes would later take the frame 25-21 following an attack error from the Bears.
Â
Utah took the first point of the third set with a kill from junior
Tawnee Luafalemana and then used a pair of 4-0 runs to go up 9-2 before Cal was forced to call its first timeout of the frame. Cal would chip away at the lead and managed to get within a point of the Utes, down 20-19, following a 4-0 run. Utah called a timeout and Anae followed with a pair of kills, while Kirst added another block to push Utah's lead to 23-19. Cal won the ensuing point, but a kill from Anae and a service ace from sophomore
Jessie Openshaw ended both the set and the match.
Â
Utah picked up its first season sweep over Cal since joining the Pac-12 and managed to collect both wins in straight sets. Utah downed Cal in earlier this season with a 3-0 victory at Haas Pavilion in Berkeley.
Â
Trueman notched eight kills and junior
Eliza Katoa added another seven for the Utes. Freshman
Bailey Choy led the team with 21 assists and Openshaw added another 15 assists, while freshman
